Caching Strategies for Continuous - media

چکیده
Data Caching is widely used to improve the performance of multimedia systems. Even though Several caching schemes have been proposed for multimedia systems, they only try to improve the cache hit ratio. Since the continuous-media servers should guarantee hiccup-free services, a high cache hit ratio alone does not capture the eeectiveness of a caching scheme. We rst show that the conventional mul-timedia caching schemes do not guarantee deterministic service and propose several caching schemes providing deterministic, hiccup-free service.

Caching is one of the most important schemes for improving the performance of continuous media servers. Continuous object caching enables a server to support more clients simultaneously since it reduces the disk load imposed at each round. However, without a quantative analysis of the disk load reduction induced by caching, the caching eeect can not be reeected in the admission control scheme, ...

متن کاملStreaming Media Caching Model Based on Knapsack Problem
The dominant traffic on the Internet has changed from text and graphics based Web content to more information-rich streaming media content, such as audio and video. With the dramatic increase of network bandwidth and the advancement of technologies on media authoring, encoding, and distribution, media traffic on the Internet has increased explosively and now accounts for the majority of traffic...
متن کاملA Proxy Caching Scheme for Continuous Media Streams on the Internet
The Internet has enabled the dissemination and access of vast amounts of information to be easy. But dramatic increases of the number of users of Internet cause server overload, network congestion and client perceived latency. In addition, currently the number of continuous media data such as audio and video is growing rapidly on the Internet. In this paper, we propose a proxy caching scheme th...
